Using technology in Campaigning
February 1, 2009
Barack Obama used technology to his advantage making his website more appealing to youth. When you go onto his website you are immediately at the dontaion page which if you donate at least thirty dollars you will receive a limited edition T-shirt. This works to Obama’s advantage because it not only encourages people to fund his campaign but the free shirt advertises himself; it is a win, win. The website is also more appealing visually. The theme is blue and white giving it a very cool and sleek look to the site, as you browse through it.
John Maccain did not do nearly as much online campaigning as his adversary Obama. John Maccain’s website is boring and hard to navigate. I personally had troubles finding anything. I eventually gave up using his website and reverted back to using Obama’s website for reference to information.
Barrack Obama didn’t only make an awesome campaigning website but he also used many other websites like youtube, facebook, myspace, and a couple other ones I forget their names. This was very advantageous to Obama towards his campaign because it got him many votes from the youth that usually would not vote at all. I think the main reason it really inspired kids to vote is because the only reason they didnt vote before was because they simply didn’t know the issues. This way the instead of youth having to track down the facts which they won’t do they were given to them convenientally.
Now that we have seen the results of this election. Plus the result, Obama winning by a land slide. I am sure it will change the way campaigns will be run from now on. This is one memorabal campaign in more ways than one. Who know what the future has in store for internet campaigning. Thanks for reading!!!
